Isn’t It Embarrassing to Be a Democrat?

OK, for the record, and to make sure I don’t get accused of trying to slip one into the Lemming Line – I am a conservative. The political candidates that I typically choose to support are Republicans. I’ll admit that has come into question once or twice, but I assure you it is not for the reasons all you liberals would like to believe. Quite the opposite really, but I’ll save that for another post. Knowing that I am a conservative and therefore not writing this as an “embarrassed” Democrat should help all of the dyed in the wool liberals respond with the proper ferocity. Although, recent history would indicate that even the few liberals that occasionally disagree with the new Democratic base and step out of line for an issue or two receive the same venomous reaction that the “evil enemy” conservatives do. Just ask Joe Lieberman… or the TV network ABC. This gets me moving towards my point, so stick with me here.

There have been a lot of memorable embarrassments Democrats have endured over the recent years. I don’t have the time, nor the patience to attempt a complete list of “Democrat’s most embarrassing moments” so I’ll just focus on the most recent one. If anyone out there is looking for that next great book idea you might give this one some consideration. There is plenty of material and all the noise the liberals will make about it being unfair, untrue, insensitive etc. etc. is sure to help book sales. Hollywood has taught us that all publicity is good publicity, right? Anyway, here we go – the most recent Democrat embarrassment:

ABC dares to air a TV show that the Democrats disagree with. Whether they actually disagree with the facts presented in this “docudrama” or disagree with the airing of anything that blasphemes the wonderful and infallible Bill Clinton is actually beside the point. This should be embarrassing for several reasons:

a) Almost every person who has reviewed this docudrama has indicated that it is just as hard on Bush as it is Clinton – if not much more so. But is it the sitting President of the United States of America that is on the phone with the CEO of Disney (who owns ABC) telling him to pull this show? No, it is the awe inspiring Bill Clinton - a man whose proud legacy should be able to speak for itself. If the facts really are wrong in the film, why the temper tantrum? Shouldn’t it be pretty easy to set the record straight? Were talking about Presidential decisions and Cabinet level decisions and National Security Council decisions right? There are certainly documents and records that prove the truth of the matter. I mean, these decisions weren’t made at the breakfast table with napkin notes, were they? No, really – were they?

b) Democrats as a whole are pretty prickly about media bias. Some will tell us that there is no such thing while others tell us that the only bias in the media is against them - and Fox News is the test balloon the media uses to find out what they can get away with and what they can’t. If this is true, why did the entire American media establishment suddenly drop every other headline in favor of pointing out the injustice the Clinton Administration was enduring? If the media is actually working against them, why wouldn’t all of the networks band together and put the hush on all the ruckus Bill, Harry and the gang were making? Even better, why not stand up and support the facts in question with their own “research”. You know, Harry Reid is one frightening fella, but, whose really got the power here, the media or the Senate Democrats? Harry and company fired off a courageous warning shot at ABC when they reminded ABC that they were granted a license to broadcast over the air and with that license came an obligation to serve the public interest. Well written threats or not, I am afraid that in spite of all of the letter writing prowess the Senate Democrats could muster up they simply could not yank licenses for all of the networks. Nope, instead of banding together to show the Senate Democrats just who is boss, everyone hopped up to point out how factually incorrect the show was – and most importantly ABC immediately set to editing the program. Something tells me no matter how hard they try ABC will never edit the program quite well enough for Bill’s approval.

c) This is the big one. Democrats spend a lot of time talking about our rights. They try to defend us from “trading in our rights” when Republicans try to pass national security bills. They point out that criticizing the President and our Military is an exercise in free speech - and patriotic to boot. Then they proudly threaten, I mean, remind ABC that the government provides that license to them with the expectation that ABC will “serve the public interest”. And Democrats ARE the public interest... AND the government - or at least they believe they will be soon enough. Did you read the letter? You should:

This is important stuff because the Democrats know the public’s best interest better than the public does. Hopefully they’ll soon be defending our right to hear only Democrat sanctioned material through ANY media outlet. I think some legislation is in order.

What’s REALLY embarrassing – the Democrats make a regular point to compare Bush or his policies to Stalin. All this time I thought they were trying to insult GW, but after this episode I realized they actually LIKE Stalin. I feel silly.
